Glasgow-based twin-sibling duo Cloth (Rachael and Paul Swinton) are today sharing new single 'Pink Silence', taken from the album of the same name, out April 25th via Rock Action. Today's new single features guitar and synth from Adrian Utley and guitar from Stuart Braithwaite.

Produced by Ali Chant (Perfume Genius, PJ Harvey, Yard Act), new song 'Pink Silence' follows recent singles 'Polaroid', 'Golden' and 'Stuck'. The new album is their first since the release of their acclaimed and Scottish Album Of The Year Award nominated 2023 album for Rock Action, Secret Measure.

Paul Swinton comments on the new single: "The term ‘Pink Silence’ is something I came up with to describe a particular time and feeling - those moments late in the evening or very early in the morning, when the sun is rising or setting. Depending on your mindset at a given time, those moments can either feel blissfully serene, or charged with a sense of foreboding. Those times are always beautiful, but the experience of them can be very different, especially if your mind is awash with overthinking - as mine often is. I really liked the idea that something so natural and beautiful could have such an emotional duality to it. The intimacy of those moments also tend to feel supercharged when shared with another person, so it felt right for the song to be a love story - one which plays out from dusk until dawn against the backdrop of pink silence."

The pair’s feather-light approach and intrinsic quiet drama remain fundamentals of the Cloth sound on Pink Silence. A daring rhythmic streak combined with the patience and restraint to let the space in their music do the talking persists, however with producer Ali Chant at the helm – and with a cast of collaborators that includes Portishead’s Adrian Utley, Owen Pallett, and Mogwai's Stuart Braithwaite - their exemplary guitar interplay is adorned with synth flourishes, undulating drone textures, and strings. Together, the group’s intentional subtlety is elevated to lofty new heights as songs unfold and bloom, becoming rich, complex and emotional. Pink Silence is the sound of Cloth realising the growing pop streak that they’ve long-threatened to bring to the fore, full of the kind of rewarding ruminations that continue to make them such an engaging prospect.

On new album Pink Silence, a more instinctual approach to writing was adopted. They wanted to let the songs be what they were going to be, rather than pulled into a certain shape. The results feel absorbing and natural, fitting rather well with what the band wanted to draw from the title Pink Silence, and the sense that beauty and trepidation can coexist.
