The Wombats To Host “Oh! the Ocean” Parties In Melbourne + Sydney This December.

In anticipation of their sixth studio album, Oh! The Ocean, set to drop on February 21, 2025, beloved British indie band The Wombats are throwing a pair of exclusive parties on Australian shores. True to the album theme, the band is tapping into the coastal vibe of the Aussie summer, with Melbourne’s Riviera Beach Club hosting on December 3, followed by Sydney’s Glass Island on December 5.
Fans can expect a Wombats DJ set of hand-picked indie bangers, along with a candid Q&A with frontman Matthew “Murph” Murphy, bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen, and drummer Dan Haggis. In quintessential Wombats style, the group has hinted at special guests – but attendees will have to wait until the day to see who joins the party.

The events coincide with Oh! The Ocean’s imminent release, an album that, according to the band, signals a new era of introspection and depth. This latest work draws on themes of catharsis and reflection, with Murph finding fresh inspiration in a recent, transformative experience by the sea. Set to arrive via AWAL, Oh! The Ocean follows the band’s first UK #1 album, Fix Yourself, Not the World, and offers a mix of melodic candour and lyrical introspection.
Leading the charge is the album’s recent single, Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want to Come, a track that blends the band’s upbeat energy with an introspective edge, tackling topics of solitude and connection. Reflecting on the song’s sentiment, Murph notes its relatability, a quality that has fuelled the band’s enduring fan loyalty two decades into their career.
