Void Of Vision Release What I’ll Leave Behind, Their Fourth Studio Album
Melbourne's Void Of Vision has officially dropped their long-awaited fourth studio album What I’ll Leave Behind, out now via UNFD. A powerhouse of blistering riffs, dense textures, and razor-sharp metalcore, this release finds the band pushing their boundaries into fresh and electrifying directions. Void Of Vision continues to redefine modern heavy music with a unique, cutting-edge approach that’s both intense and deeply personal.
For vocalist Jack Bergin, this album is more than just a collection of songs—it’s the sonic embodiment of a deeply personal journey. In 2022, Bergin’s life took an unexpected turn when he woke up in an ambulance following a sudden seizure. After a series of tests, doctors discovered an arteriovenous malformation (AVM), a tangle of blood vessels in his brain, revealed through MRI and CT scans. This life-altering diagnosis would ultimately shape the themes of the album.
Despite the challenges, Void Of Vision continued to push forward with touring, recording music videos, and completing their CHRONICLES III: UNDERWORLD EP. However, the demands of balancing creativity and personal health took their toll on Bergin. To cope, he adopted the persona of the “Angel Of Darkness,” a creative outlet that allowed him to distance himself from the weight of his condition while still driving the band’s artistic vision.
By April 2023, however, Bergin’s health took a critical turn. The AVM ruptured, causing a brain bleed, and urgent surgery was needed. With his hospitalization, Void Of Vision’s schedule was abruptly cleared—headline shows, festivals, and the recording of their next album were all put on hold.
During his recovery, Bergin grappled with profound questions about his identity, purpose, and the future of his music career. His hospital stay became a period of intense self-reflection, leading him to question everything: “What am I doing with my life? Is this all worth it? Who am I without the band? What will I leave behind?” From this existential battle came What I’ll Leave Behind, a raw and emotionally charged album that encapsulates his journey from trauma to acceptance.
Void Of Vision's lineup—Jack Bergin on vocals, James McKendrick on guitar and vocals, George Pfaender on drums, and Mitch Fairlie on guitar—has never been more unified in their mission. The genre experimentation of their CHRONICLES series has evolved into a signature sound that’s unmistakably their own. Brutal yet calculated, What I’ll Leave Behind offers the perfect soundtrack for navigating life’s darkest moments, with themes of loss, learning, and growth woven throughout.
The band's reputation for innovation and sonic ferocity spans over a decade, from their early Broken // Bones EP in 2014 to landmark releases like Children of Chrome (2016), Disturbia (2017), Hyperdaze (2019), and the CHRONICLES series. Their standalone single “Angel Of Darkness” last year hinted at this new era, blending heavy alt-metal with pulsating pop elements, symbolized by the Angel Of Darkness persona.
Void Of Vision has been leaving an indelible mark on stages worldwide, sharing the spotlight with bands like Stray From The Path, ERRA, Holding Absence, and Polaris, and even performing at the inaugural Knotfest Australia. They’re currently on the road with Parkway Drive, supporting the Australian metal giants on their massive 20 Year Anniversary Tour. After kicking things off with a huge show in Brisbane on September 18, Void Of Vision are continuing the tour with more dates in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth, coinciding with the release of What I’ll Leave Behind.
With What I’ll Leave Behind, Void Of Vision has not only crafted a sonic masterpiece, but they’ve also charted a deeply personal journey, proving once again why they remain one of the most exciting and forward-thinking forces in heavy music today.
