American Football, a beloved band from the midwest, have been a consistent staple in any alternative enthusiasts playlists since their debut in 1999. Their first release, humbly named “LP1”, has appeared on Rolling Stone’s “40 Greatest Emo Albums of All Time” at spot #6 and has continued to soar since then.

In 2024, to celebrate 25 years of the inaugural release, the recently unearthed original tapes were remastered by Johnathon Pines, the same engineer who first captured the bands 1999 debut at Urbana’s Private Studios. LP1 now sounds sharper, and more full of nostalgic depth and wistful intrumentals then ever before.

Alongside the remaster, American Football presented the “Covers” alternative, featuring an array of talented artists including Iron & Wine, Ethel Cain, Manchester Orchestra, Bloodshell and more! This ingeniously programmed set highlights not only the way American Football fueled an eventual “emo revival”, but also how their songs and sounds cut across borders of generation, genre and geography.
