‘analysis paralysis’ | Baro Sura & Silentjay

Baro Sura and Silentjay’s new single ‘analysis paralysis’ comes a month after their last release ‘& On’ featuring lojii.

The two songs mark the first release of the year for Baro Sura, a welcome return for one of the most influential and talented artists in Australian rap.

My first listen was on a sunny day, one of the first this spring, and that has undoubtedly coloured my feeling towards the track. The analogue sounds of electric piano walking over a tight bass and drum groove underneath Baro’s effortless flow seem to capture the cool sun perfectly. The soaring vocal sample which closes out the track over the top of what sounds like a flute line is the work of producer and instrumentalist Silentjay, one of the people at the forefront of Melbourne’s underground jazz scene. This is a great single, it’s both melancholy and hopeful, and I’ll continue to listen to it as I walk around the suburbs and catch the trains this spring.

“I don’t reminisce much”

The influence of jazz and soul, heavy in this track, have been a feature of Baro Sura’s distinct style since his first album, 2014s ‘HOWGOODISGOOD?’. He has teased an album this year, which would be his first LP since 2017s ‘Just Problems You Need To Know’.

In light of Baro Sura’s recent work, singles like ‘MAILBOX FREESTYLE’ with brick gaddafi which dropped last year, and now ‘analysis paralysis’ being great standalone tracks we can have high hopes for whatever Baro Sura has coming next.
