Off Judy Share Charming Single “Scared Of The Dog”

Off Judy / Scared Of The Dog

Bundjalung/Byron Bay-based indie-punk outfit Off Judy have just unveiled their sincere single 'Scared Of The Dog' – produced and mixed by Alain Decarne (Les Krills, Tropical Zombie).

'Scared Of The Dog' is an inviting, energetic indie-punk singalong that expounds carefree energy through its sun-soaked guitar chords, driving bass and raucous drums. Taking cues from luminaries Skegss, Surf Trash and Hockey Dad, the band create a track that exudes a joyful embrace while addressing themes of depression and its commonly used avatar, the 'Black Dog'.

Lead vocalist Finn Mcildowie talks about the inspiration behind the track:

"The 'dog' in 'Scared Of The Dog' is the black dog. The track's theme is to continue enjoying life even though the black dog is always looming. Keeping it at bay but never giving in to it. Acknowledging it's there but keeping it just out of reach."

Alongside the single is the accompanying music video, directed by the band themselves and featuring footage from their recent UK/Europe tour. The band explain, "We filmed a home-made video of our three-month tour through Europe and The UK, carrying with us a Sony DCR-SX43 handycam to capture the essence of the journey. There's nothing better than going on tour with your mates. We met many amazing people, played at many different venues and festivals and were constantly looked after by those we met along the way. There are clips of dogs sprinkled in key parts throughout the clip to indicate the presence of the (black) dog always looming. Enjoy life, it's not always easy, so embrace the good times when you can whilst acknowledging the tough ones."

Along with touring the UK and Europe, the band completed a New Zealand tour in late 2023 with an appearance at the Longline Classic. They've also previously supported Wolfmother, Pacific Avenueand The Smith Street Band. Previous releases have seen support from Apple Music, triple j Unearthed, CLOUT (UK) and Mystic Sons (UK).
